Calculation methods
The formulas, worked examples, assumptions and limits behind every tool.
Gear list ↗
Each line weight = item weight × quantity. Categories are organizational labels and do not change weight.
Example: A 120 g cup with quantity 2 contributes 240 g to its category.
Up to 200 items. The starter list illustrates the software and is not a complete equipment recommendation for weather, terrain or trip risk.
Departure check ↗
Completion counts checked list rows, not the total number of physical objects in their quantity fields.
Example: Checking 3 of 5 list rows means 60% complete, even if one row has quantity 4.
Checks are stored locally with the list. Shared JSON files contain the current packed status; no live collaboration service is used.
Pack weight ↗
Carried weight = base + consumable. Skin-out total = carried + worn. Each item belongs to exactly one weight class.
Example: 2 kg base, 1 kg consumables and 0.5 kg worn give 3 kg carried and 3.5 kg skin-out total.
This summarizes your entries. It does not determine a safe carrying limit or whether equipment is sufficient.
Plan backup ↗
JSON stores a versioned, validated list. Browser storage autosaves valid changes after initial loading; import replaces the current plan after confirmation.
Example: Export a JSON backup before changing devices, then import it in another browser to keep your categories and packed checks.
Offline caching is enabled only when you choose it, requires a successful first online visit, and stores only this site’s public assets. Browser storage can still be cleared by the browser.
Units and numerical limits
Conversions use 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 mile = 1.609344 km, and 1 avoirdupois ounce = 28.349523125 g. Empty, non-finite, out-of-range and unsupported values are rejected. Displayed values are rounded; calculations retain precision. Input-specific limits are reported alongside the field when exceeded.
